RE: Just got a call - they damaged our new truck in transit!

Take this opportunity to back out of the deal, then go shopping. Buy what suits you best. Surely you can find something in inventory of the brand you choose. You'll make a much better deal than ordering one.

RE: will oceanfront parking cause damage?

There's a lot salt spray can damage that a good wax job or washing off won't help. It gets to areas you have a hard time getting to, if you can get to them at all. Undercarriage, engine compartment, running gear -- they're all affected, more so in higher-humidity oceanfront or gulf-front areas (FL). It's a trade-off for sure.

RE: Chrysler asks for bailout, gives bonuses....

Didn't the banks just get 700B for a mess they got themselves into? What's the difference?

RE: If Ford, GM, and Chrysler were to go out of business.....

The goal is to let GM die and its Chevy Volt concept developement. After it dies, up go gas prices again.
With a projected base price on the Volt of $40,000, who's going to buy it anyway? If you can afford 40K you can afford the gas!!

RE: Is this normal or just bad trailer design

Lots of ideas for modifications. To answer your original question -- just poor design. Good design doesn't need modification.

RE: 2010 Holiday Rambler C+

An MSRP of 170K for ANY Class C strikes me as being pretty high.....make that exorbitant! I'd be looking into a DP myself before I decided to drive a medium-duty truck with a box on it. But, JMO.

By 'property in Texas' you mean just dirt or a stick house? Might make a difference.

RE: If Ford, GM, and Chrysler were to go out of business.....

If they were to literally 'go out of business' you'd see the same thing happen to the value of their vehicles as did the value of National RV products. Not what you wanted to hear, was it. If the file bankruptcy, and re-organize, the value wouldn't be affected quite as much, but who's going to be brave enough to buy a new one from a company that may or may not re-surface after all the smoke clears?

RE: Wow, could the answer be any clearer, re GM?

And, the UAW started most of the bleeding...
Ever notice how non-union companies never seem to have the same problems? Unions were great when they first came on the scene, but unfortunately have turned into uncontrollable monsters over the years. I'll bet the autoworkers (well, at least some of them) wish they had never heard the word union. Let's see how the UAW helps them out now.

RE: Carmax

OK, so I imagine you'd like to have input from somebody that's been in the car business for 25+ years. Here it is: CarMax is very well respected in the industry. They have a reputation for honest dealing. They historically check and inspect their cars thoroughly. They also give you the option of having a car shipped in from another location (at your expense) and guarantee it will be as advertised when it arrives. Pre-set pricing (no negotiating), and a fair trade-in offer. All-in-all, I would recommend them highly. And, for you cynics, rest assured I have absolutely no affiliation with CarMax in any way. They're just a good organization and are held in high regard within the industry.

RE: Diesel or gas?

If you've got 100K to spend, you can slide into a brand new entry level diesel (Base SportsCoach), or a really nice nearly-new one of several different brands.

RE: Honda Pilot vs Acura MDX

Trim is a little more upscale on the MDX, but I'd buy the Pilot. Basically the same vehicle, however the Pilot will be easier to re-sell when the time comes.

RE: Forest River Charleston vs Safari Cheetah by Monoco

I consider Monoco to be a more quality company than Forest River myself. Have no personal experience with either other than going to the Forest River plant, and turning around when I saw the condition of their parking lot.

Positively agree. (Funny, but we had the same experience when we scheduled a tour of the Damon plant --- what a joke!!)
Parking lots can be deceiving, Look at Tiffin's customer service parking lot. Unless they have upgraded it was gravel and pretty rough.
Oh, it wasn't just the parking lot at Damon! The entire operation was a circus. Nobody seemed to know what was going on! It was a disorganized mess to say the least.

RE: 2007 sportscoach

Can't tell you from first-hand experience, but I can tell you that based on my observations, the SportsCoach is indeed the lowest-priced entry-level DP on the market. I've seen many dealers selling brand new ones for less than $100,000.

RE: Check your MH insurance value !

What is wrong with book value? They can sell for a fraction of book value today.
In this market, if you had a loss and your insurance company actually paid you 'book value' you should kiss them square on the lips!! A replacement cost endorsement is, however, the way to go, and adds very little to your premium.

RE: Is an extended warranty a good purchase?

Since you've already purchased it, you've probably read it over and understand what it covers and what it doesn't. Many extended warranties (or, legally, extended service contracts) are very good -- some are not.
Bear in mind that everyone on this forum that emphatically says 'no' and calls them a bet or a hedge, probably themselves own life insurance, homeowners insurance, car insurance, and so on. Why is the purchase of ANY of these coverages any different than the purchase of an extended service contract? Truth be known, they aren't. They too are bets or hedges or whatever you want to call them. Insurers are in business to make a profit, but to offer protection at the same time.
If you bought it, you must have felt it was a good investment. You probably did the right thing, so don't let people on this forum, WHO HAVE NO IDEA as to the coverage you bought, discourage you.
Go RVing!!!

RE: gmac bankruptcy

Insurance companies are odd. This doesn't apply to GMAC, but nothing angers me more than the fact that so many companies advertise solely the fact that their insurance is CHEAPER than everyone else's. Cheap, cheap, cheap. Save $300, $400, $500. WOW! Absolutely NOTHING about quality coverage (with one exception). WAKE UP!! Having QUALITY and ADEQUATE coverage is so much more important than having CHEAP coverage. It's like shopping for the cheapest surgeon if you need a heart operation! Just had to vent a little.............:C
